Cahal Moran is a British behavioural economist and author known for his critical approach to mainstream economics and his advocacy for pluralism in economic thought. He is a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics (LSE), where his research focuses on how behavioural biases and heuristics influence real-world decision-making, particularly in household economics, savings behaviour, and public policy.
Moran gained prominence as a co-author of The Econocracy: The Perils of Leaving Economics to the Experts (2016), a book that critiques the narrow focus of economics education and calls for a more inclusive and democratic approach to economic policymaking. He is also the creator of the YouTube channel “Unlearning Economics,” where he discusses economic issues from a pluralist perspective.
His latest book, Why We’re Getting Poorer: A Realist’s Guide to the Economy and How We Can Fix It, offers an accessible analysis of contemporary economic challenges, including inequality and the cost-of-living crisis, and proposes pragmatic solutions grounded in behavioural insights.
Through his academic work, publications, and public engagement, Moran contributes to ongoing debates about the role of economics in society and the need for reform in economic education and policy.
