Anil Seth is a neuroscientist and one of the world's leading researchers on consciousness. He is Professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Sussex, where he directs the Sussex Centre for Consciousness Science, and he is Co-Director of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) program on Brain, Mind & Consciousness. His work explores how the brain generates conscious experience, proposing that perception is a form of "controlled hallucination" and that the experience of being a self is rooted in the brain's regulation of the living body. He is the author of Being You: A New Science of Consciousness (2021), and his TED talk on consciousness is among the most-watched in neuroscience. He is a frequent voice in public debates about consciousness and artificial intelligence.
